A business student serving as a library intern collaborated with the business librarian, faculty, and students to develop Web-based tutorials for core business assignments and was trained to provide peer tutoring. The student-librarian relationship developed into a mentorship, resulting in shared professional development opportunities and a potential way of recruiting business students to the library profession. The courses, Ways of Knowing and Mentorship & Learning, were originally designed to help with retention and transition issues. They were also founded on the concept of peer-led learning at the university level. In this model students are able to organically connect with their peers in a way that is not always possible with faculty and librarians. It did not take long to see the potential in using peer mentors as conduits in the transfer of information literacy skills. This article tells the story behind the development of two information literacy courses and the mistakes that had to be made before the connection between mentors and information literacy could be seen. It also shows that by involving faculty and students in the design and delivery of an information literacy-integrated curriculum the library can accomplish far more than any one-shot, tool-based session. As libraries continue to change to meet this new paradigm, they often embrace business models of marketing and advertising. In order to reach Trinity University students and increase usage of electronic resources, while also advertising important new services, librarians formed a partnership with peer tutors on campus. These peer tutors are consistently some of the most conscientious and brightest students on campus, and their opinions matter more to new first-year students than those of librarians or other authority figures. The partnership resulted in increased use of resources and gave librarians a chance to create relationships with students. This article explores the benefits of word-of-mouth marketing on a small, liberal arts campus and includes literature related to other peer-teaching scenarios and marketing through word-of-mouth. The literature shows strong evidence of librarians collaborating with faculty, peer tutors, and other on-campus constituencies in an effort to facilitate both the discussion and acquisition of information literacy skills and concepts. The literature points to a likely collaboration: that of libraries and writing centers, in light of their corresponding missions and endeavors. This paper details how two academic librarians partnered with teaching faculty who oversee the campus writing center to infuse information literacy skills and concepts into the training of writing tutors. The authors explore the history of the collaboration with faculty that led up to the information literacy workshops, provide a detailed explanation of workshop activities, focusing on disciplinary discourse and resource evaluation, and discuss how information literacy standards were embedded in the activities. We also consider challenges and opportunities afforded by the experience, as well as future steps to extend this collaboration. The peer tutoring program was a success, demonstrating that peer assistance can effectively supplement reference and instruction librarians' work. The program developed in such a way that peer tutors now not only provide one-on-one tutoring services but also serve as assistants during training and course-integrated instruction sessions.
