"abstractNote": "AbstractThe article investigates how post-black feminist definitions of intersectionality in the social sciences have \"disappeared\" black women as knowledge producers and subjects of investigation. This post-black feminist turn in theorizing intersectionality is assessed in terms of the rhetorical strategies critiqued by Kimberlé Crenshaw (1989, 1990-91) in her foundational work on intersectionality, demonstrating how the very strategies she identified as hegemonic limitations to black feminism have been incorporated into social science work produced in the name of intersectional investigation, thus re-subjugating black women's knowledge. A reconstructive liberatory project in the name of intersectionality is suggested that would entail scholars across the disciplines implementing hermeneutical and/or narrative methodologies that center on black women's subjectivity.",

"abstractNote": "This paper argues the case for combining international business theory and economic geography theory in order to understand the new rules of competition for both multinational corporations (MNCs) and regions in the globalising knowledge-based economy. Sweden serves as a case study to illustrate the shifts of sectors and people skills that have paved the way for the transformation of the Swedish economy that has occurred over the last 15 years. Combining international business theory with that of economic geography produces the possibility of developing a conceptual framework for explaining the new dynamics and interaction that are occurring between people-place-firm. The enhanced importance of people and place, shifting pace, complex networks of production, and new balances of power together lead to changing practices and strategic implications for both MNCs and regions competing in the globalising knowledge-based economy.",

"abstractNote": "\"David Harvey, author of The Condition of Postmodernity and The New Imperialism, here tells the political-economic story of where neoliberalization came from and how it proliferated on the world stage. While Thatcher and Reagan are often cited as primary authors of this neoliberal turn, Harvey shows how a complex of forces, from Chile to China and from New York City to Mexico City, have also played their part. In addition he explores the continuities and contrasts between neoliberalism of the Clinton sort and the recent turn towards neoconservative imperialism of George W. Bush. Finally, through critical engagement with this history, Harvey constructs a framework not only for analyzing the political and economic dangers that now surround us, but also for assessing the prospects for the more socially just alternatives being advocated by many oppositional movements.\"--Jacket.",

"abstractNote": "This article argues that although the act of mommy blogging may be empowering, the term itself reinforces women's hegemonic normative roles as nurturers, thrusting women who blog about their children into a form of digital domesticity in the blogosphere. Drawing on 29 blogs posts women wrote debating the term mommy blogger and 649 comments posted on these blogs, the author uses Judith Butler's concept of performativity to rhetorically analyze the term, using a techno-feminist lens and cyber-ethnographic approach. The author asserts that the use of the term mommy blogger continues the culturally ingrained performance of motherhood women learned since childhood, and, in so doing, holds women captive in this subjective norm that may not fit them. The use of mommy, versus mother, highlights the nurturing aspect of motherhood and conjures a prototype of the ideal mother, further marginalizing women by focusing on one attribute that does not apply to all women or even all mothers.",

"abstractNote": "Previous studies have found systematic associations between personality and individual differences in word use. Such studies have typically focused on broad associations between major personality domains and aggregate word categories, potentially masking more specific associations. Here I report the results of a large-scale analysis of personality and word use in a large sample of blogs (N = 694). The size of the dataset enabled pervasive correlations with personality to be identified for a broad range of lexical variables, including both aggregate word categories and individual English words. The results replicated category-level findings from previous off-line studies, identified numerous novel associations at both a categorical and single-word level, and underscored the value of complementary approaches to the study of personality and word use.",

"abstractNote": "Recently, the impact of globalization and the dominant status of English have provoked critical discussion in the L2 motivation field. Traditional concepts such as integrative motivation lose their explanatory power when English is becoming a ‘must-have’ basic educational skill and when there is no clearly defined target language community. In this article, I will examine how L2 motivation is currently being reconceptualized in the context of contemporary theories of self and identity – that is, people's sense of who they are, how they relate to the social world and what they want to become in the future. As I will discuss, this theoretical shift in focus to the internal domain of self and identity has important implications for how we as language teachers engage the motivation, interests and identities of our students; and for why we should exploit their world of digital technologies, social networking and online communication to this end.",

"abstractNote": "This article surveys some of the most influential theory and commentary in the Western linguistic tradition on narrative as a genre or interactional activity. The fundamental domains of story and discourse, the structure and grammar of plot, and the complex narrative manipulations of temporal order and pace that characterize sophisticated literary narratives are all considered. The distinctive feature approach to character and effects of naming and of the dramatizing of setting are also outlined, before a fuller treatment is given of contrasting styles of narration (including narratorial unreliability) and of point of view (focalization).",

Its complexity is demonstrated through an exploration of ‘intellectual autobiography,’ using the author's own uses of narrative in a research diary which focusses on making sense of her mother's self, a self which, following a stroke, appeared to be a self apparently in dissolution.",

A historical survey of the diary—the blog's paper-based antecedent—suggests how the two records are alike and where they diverge, taking into account their evidential values, their seemingly contradictory public and private qualities, and their very diverse physical natures. The paper discusses the role that traditional archives should play in preserving blogs, while considering the implications that their loss would have for our cultural memory, and offering some suggestions for ensuring their preservation.",

"abstractNote": "In the 25 19th-century rural diaries examined here, the content is organized through the repetitive spatial arrangement of isolated words and phrases on the page rather than through grammatical structure. Applying to the diaries analytic methods derived from the study of folk art and folk narrative, the article concludes that the diaries are not merely catalogs of tasks completed. They represent the expression of rural, preindustrial concepts of time, place, community, and self through the adaptation of nonliterate aesthetic principles to the format of mass-produced diaries intended for the literate recording of events and the compilation of business accounts.",

"abstractNote": "Narrative identity is a person’s internalized and evolving life story, integrating the reconstructed past and imagined future to provide life with some degree of unity and purpose. In recent studies on narrative identity, researchers have paid a great deal of attention to (a) psychological adaptation and (b) development. Research into the relation between life stories and adaptation shows that narrators who find redemptive meanings in suffering and adversity, and who construct life stories that feature themes of personal agency and exploration, tend to enjoy higher levels of mental health, well-being, and maturity. Researchers have tracked the development of narrative identity from its origins in conversations between parents and their young children to the articulation of sophisticated meaning-making strategies in the personal stories told in adolescence and the emerging adulthood years. Future researchers need to (a) disentangle causal relations between features of life stories and positive psychological adaptation and (b) explore further the role of broad cultural contexts in the development of narrative identity.",

It uses the event of the 2005 BlogHer conference as a starting point for a discussion about the mommy blogger phenomenon, wherein a constellation of ensuing conversations challenge the use of the title 'mommy blogger' and the activities that are encompassed by it. In qualitatively examining the form and content of mommy blogs, this article ultimately argues for their potential to build communities and to challenge dominant representations of motherhood within our society.",
