These phenomena are however not reproduced by the widespread outdoor sound propagation models that are based on ray codes algorithms, because their modeling would induce increased computational costs. In this paper, a set of 32 175 simulations is achieved with a sound particle tracing code to quantify the errors made when neglecting acoustic diffusion within street canyons, according to the street geometry (width, height, distance between the point source and the receiver), the acoustical properties of the street (diffusion and absorption coefficient of the facades, absorption coefficient of the ground), and the acoustical properties of the fittings (mean free path and average absorption coefficient), in the case of a receiver height of 1.5 m. The diffuse reflections can lead to reduction of 2 dB to an increase of 4 dB of sound pressure levels in the absence of fittings, and can lead to an increase of 10 dB of sound pressure levels in the presence of fittings, for the most unfavorable configurations. The influence of the acoustical parameters and the influence of the street geometry on sound attenuation are closely linked to each other. Moreover, acoustic diffusion results in an overall sound level increase if one considers a linear point source distribution. Finally, regressions are proposed that estimate the impact of diffusive reflections and street fittings on sound propagation as a function of the input parameters. These regressions can now be advantageously used to refine sound levels estimations within street canyons, when using classical outdoor sound propagation models, in the range of the parameters urbaines et périurbaines où les sources de bruit associées au traffic routier sont nombreuses et variées. Les logiciels de prévision acoustique actuels, basés sur des modèles énergétiques et géométriques et développés initialement pour des applications en milieux extérieurs faiblement bâtis, sont donc limités pour la prévision acoustique en milieux urbains et périurbains (présence de bâtis et d'encombrements, sources de bruit réelles mobiles avec un régime de fonctionnement variant dans le temps...). Le travail de thèse a consisté à proposer un modèle numérique temporel, adapté à la modélisation de la propagation acoustique en milieu urbain. Parmi les méthodes envisageables, la méthode TLM (\"Transmission Line Modelling\") constitue une approche originale, puisqu'elle permet de considérer des domaines de propagation de géométries complexes en intégrant la plupart des phénomènes physiques mis en jeu lors de la propagation du son sur de grandes distances (diffraction, réflexion, phénomènes stationnaires, divergence géométrique, atténuation atmosphérique, effets micrométéorologiques). Toutefois, l'étude bibliographique a mis en évidence deux limitations majeures de la méthode pour répondre pleinement à notre problématique : l'implémentation de conditions aux frontières réalistes et la modélisation d'un milieu de propagation infini. Un modèle TLM générique a ainsi été développé, et permet de réaliser des simulations en deux ou en trois dimensions en combinant l'ensemble des phénomènes influant sur la propagation du son en milieux extérieurs densément bâtis. Une approche permettant d'implémenter une condition d'impédance aux frontières a également été proposée. La méthode consiste à approcher l'impédance par une somme de systèmes linéaires du premier ordre. L'usage d'une méthode de convolution récursive permet par ailleurs de limiter le coût numérique associé au calcul du champ de pression sonore sur la frontière. Des simulations de la propagation acoustique au-dessus de différents types de sols absorbants ont été réalisées et confrontées avec succès aux solutions analytiques. Concernant la modélisation d'un milieu de propagation infini, une formulation de couches absorbantes anisotropes permettant de limiter le domaine de calcul a également été développée. Notre approche est basée sur un modèle de diffusion reposant sur l’hypothèse que les réflexions diffuses par les parois d’un local engendrent un processus de diffusion de l’énergie. L’objectif de ce travail a notamment consisté à intégrer le phénomène de réflexions mixtes spéculaire/diffus des parois au sein de ce modèle. Tout d’abord, nous avons cherché à exploiter la relation entre le processus de diffusion et le libre parcours moyen, en vue d’obtenir une expression de la constante de diffusion qui soit fonction du coefficient de diffraction et de la forme de la salle. Cette démarche se révélant mal adaptée, nous avons proposé de simuler ce phénomène par le biais d’une valeur adéquate de la constante de diffusion obtenue empiriquement par ajustement avec les résultats issus d’une approche de tir de rayons. La comparaison avec des modèles classiques a permis de valider cette approche dans la majorité des cas. Pour des couloirs spéculaires, le modèle de diffusion étant insuffisant, nous avons proposé un modèle hybride diffusion/sources-images, dont le couplage s’effectue au niveau des intensités, via le coefficient de diffraction. Enfin, des validations expérimentales ont montré le bon comportement des modèles développés. En particulier, le modèle hybride diffusion/sources-images permet d’obtenir un bon accord avec les données expérimentales à la fois en termes de niveaux sonores et de temps de réverbération (avec un temps de calcul faible), à la différence de la méthode de tirs de rayons. The present study deals with the development of an acoustical prediction model for optimizing the arrangement of enclosures inside buildings. Our approach is based on a diffusion model, which basic assumption is that the diffusely reflective walls of the enclosure generate an energy diffusion process. The aim of this work is to integrate the mixed specular/diffuse reflection phenomenon at the walls into this model. First of all, attempt is made to find a relation between the diffusion process and the mean free path in the enclosure, in order to obtain an expression of the diffusion constant as a function of the scattering coefficient and the room’s shape. As this approach does not out to be appropriate, we propose to simulate the mixed specular/diffuse reflections by means of an empirical diffusion constant, obtained by adjusting the diffusions-based results with results given by a ray tracing approach. This approach is successful in most cases, except for long rooms with specular reflections. A hybrid model, coupling the diffusion model with the image-source model is then developed; the coupling is realised through the intensities via the scattering coefficient. Last, experimental validations show the good behaviour of the developed models. Pour faire face à cet enjeu de société, de nombreuses recherches ont permis de décrire la propagation acoustique en milieu urbain. Toutefois, devant la très grande complexité géométrique et physique du milieu urbain, les modèles implémentés dans les logiciels usuels de prédiction, basés sur des approximations énergétiques et géométriques, limitent la description physique des champs acoustiques. Il apparaît donc que des travaux fondamentaux sur la propagation acoustique en milieu complexe doivent être poursuivis en amont des applications directement liées à l'acoustique urbaine. Dans ce contexte de recherche amont, l'idée essentielle de ces travaux est de considérer la rue comme un guide d'ondes ouvert. En effet, la forme typiquement allongée favorise le guidage des ondes dans l'axe de la rue. En revanche, l'ouverture de ce guide sur un domaine infini - le ciel - entraîne un rayonnement des ondes conduisant à des pertes d'énergie. L'étude de ces phénomènes compétitifs entre ondes guidées et ondes rayonnées est au coeur de ce travail. Pour résoudre l'équation d'ondes dans un tel guide ouvert tridimensionnel, la démarche scientifique retenue repose sur le principe de la décomposition modale. Dans cette approche, le champ d'ondes est une combinaison d'un ensemble de modes (appelé base modale) dont les contributions dépendent notamment des conditions aux extrémités du guide. L'extension de l'approche modale au cas des guides d'ondes ouverts nécessite d'introduire la notion de modes fuyants (leaky modes). Au travers d'une étude préliminaire portant sur des guides bidimensionnels fermés de section variable, les possibilités de l'approche modale sont appréhendées dans des cas simples en vue de l'étendre au cas plus complexe des guides tridimensionnels ouverts. Par la suite, un premier travail sur les modes fuyants est réalisé dans le cas académique d'un guide ouvert cylindrique de section rectangulaire. Ce travail permet d'étudier de manière détaillée le comportement et les propriétés des modes fuyants lorsqu'ils sont utilisés dans une approche modale. Il est notamment montré qu'un nombre restreint d'entre eux est nécessaire pour décrire précisemment le champ. Sur la base des conclusions de ces premières recherches, une méthode couplée Modal-Eléments Finis plus adaptée aux spécificités des “guides d'ondes urbains” est proposée. Ces travaux montrent comment, en utilisant des PML (Perfectly Matched Layers), un nouveau problème de propagation en guide fermé peut être substitué au problème original de propagation en guide ouvert. Dans cette approche, certaines caractéristiques de la complexité physique et géométrique du milieu urbain peuvent être prise en compte. In studying extended distributions of buildings, such assumption is convenient to model the sound propagation, as much as it describes reasonably well some real situations. Specific properties of periodic media, in particular the presence of bandgaps, are investigated. A particular attention is paid to the influence of the opening and radiation above the periodic lattice. For this purpose, results are compared with an identical lattice, closed at the upper part. The problem is tackled using a coupled modal-Finite Elements method. The main idea is to turn the original unbounded domain into an equivalent waveguiding structure, with the appropriate boundary conditions. The experimental study is performed in a scale model of urban area. One of the main objectives is to be able to build and to compare noise maps of large cities, related to various mobility plan parameters. Considering the computational time that is required for making classical noise maps a simplified approach of the French standard NMPB2008 method of sound propagation in urban areas has been proposed. A striking feature of the proposed approach is that the model is implemented within a two-dimensional geographic information system software (OrbisGIS). Incidentally a specific attention has been paid to the optimization of algorithms in order to reduce computational times and memory footprint. The method is then able to produce noise maps in few hours on a personal computer, for very large domains, around several millions of squared meters. A validation is presented by comparing noise maps produced by the proposed approach with “regular” noise maps of Nantes Métropole using the French standard method.
