            "abstractNote": "ABSTRACT Academic special collections librarians have made great strides in making their collections discoverable and accessible to a wide audience. This article examines use of special collections departments and the many kinds of outreach librarians undertake to increase access to and knowledge of their collections, including creating electronic finding aids, digitizing material, collaborating with faculty, increasing participation in instruction and reference, and using exhibits, social media, and relationships with community partners to further the mission and goals of the library and the college or university.             "abstractNote": "Abstract\nThis study explores the use of inquiry-based instruction for constructing historical understanding in historic site-based teacher professional development programs. In an historic site-based professional development workshop, fifteen teachers of grades 5 through 12 engaged in guided inquiry with documents drawn from said historic site. Participants showed significantly increased curiosity about the site and use of problem-solving strategies in interactions with the site and staff, but no improvement in other elements related to historical thinking at historic sites. Improvements correlated to neither length of teaching experience nor testing group characteristics, indicating broad applicability for improving historic site-based professional development programs.",

            "abstractNote": "The article seeks to dispel myths concerning the use of primary sources in elementary and secondary education. The relevance of primary source material to children's learning and to established curricula are examined and their availability and suitability for classroom use is explored. The incorporation of the diary of a ten-year-old girl written during the late 19th century into a history lesson is discussed and possible activities are presented. The author argues on behalf of using primary source material with children in order to promote deeper understanding of historical concepts, development of critical thinking skills, and appreciation for history.",

            "abstractNote": "Recent developments in the field of K-12 (kindergarten through twelfth grade) education have made archival resources essential tools for many teachers. Inquiry-based learning, document-based questions, and high stakes standardized testing have converged to make primary resources an important teaching tool in elementary and secondary education. Teaching and testing K-12 students require analysis of primary documents, so that archival records take their place alongside the test tube and the textbook in many American classrooms. These trends represent an opportunity for archives to expand their patron base, establish contacts in the community, contribute to the vitality of public education in their communities, and cultivate the next generation of archives' users, donors, and supporters. This paper encourages archivists to consider K–12 students and their teachers when planning programs, digital products, and services.",
