Conduct Unbecoming: Gays and Lesbians in the U.S Military by Randy Shilts is one of great books that was published during the 1990's.  It covers the entire history of the U.S military in regards to how homosexuals have been treated.  A majority of the book covers World War II until the Don't Ask Don't Tell era in the early 1990's.  It also covers topics like McCarthyism, the Lavender Scare, and the Stonewall Riots.

This book will benefit me throughout my paper because I plan to discuss several topics that this book covers.  It is made up of first-hand accounts and some articles from homosexual military members and ordinary people.

Coming Out Under Fire by Allan Berube studies homosexuals in the U.S military, emphasizing the World War II period.  In discusses the participation of gays and also lesbians during this time period.  He not only looks at their military participation but their personal lives as well.  He targets multiple policies that labeled them undesireable.

This book will benefit me greatly during my research because it is widely regarded as the best piece of historical writing in regards to homosexuality in the U.S military.  It goes back as far as 1909 where it discusses the way emerging psychology influenced the government to make military policies regarding homosexuals serving in the military.
