Postmodernism's acknowledgement of the decentered subject, that an individual does not actually \"live\" a holistic, planned existence but rather \"lives\" several discourses/roles imposed on the individual from without, leads to some very interesting questions for public relations professionals who communicate to audiences. Postmodern applications to audience analysis and campaign message design suggest how concentration on the multiple, ever changing frames of references - or \"realities\" - of any audience member can lead to more effective public relations messages and campaign communication.             "abstractNote": "Over the past two decades, employees in every industry have been a part of a communications revolution that is driving more everyday tasks online. Recently, videoconferencing has made inroads into the enterprise, and webcasting is a large part of that. In fact, video webcasts are now being created right from the desktop, without media department involvement, using tools that effectively combine PowerPoint and video to shorten meetings, reduce travel and increase customer connections. Over the last few years, however, users are stretching the use of Web conferencing to accomplish a wide variety of tasks, such as recorded meetings and on-demand viewing that are better suited for webcasting. Webcasting is a one-to-many communications medium that utilizes rich media and video to enable high-impact communication and education, all of which can be tracked, analyzed and refined based on audience behavior and feedback. Video webcasting can reach a variety of internal and external audiences.",

            "abstractNote": "Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to inform information and communication design for multi-disciplinary multi-national projects through the presentation of examples and recommendations based on lessons learned. Design/methodology/approach - Experiences from action research involving field study with 20 organizations, together with survey research involving 30 external experts. Findings - Shared understanding in multi-disciplinary multi-national projects can be better enabled through the application of information and communication design. Research limitations/implications - The action research involved only two cases. Practical implications - Project participants need to have shared understandings in order to achieve project objectives. There are formidable inherent barriers to shared understanding in multi-disciplinary multi-national projects. Generic methods for the communication of information; such as use of gestures, speaking business English, and application of standard process charting; can be ineffective. Particularly, when inherent challenges are exacerbated by the introduction of new technological and/or business concepts. Information design seeks to improve the effectiveness of information. Communication design is concerned with the selection of media most suitable for carrying particular information to specific audiences/recipients. Originality/value - The originality of the research reported in this paper is that it encompasses: inherent challenges in establishing shared understanding; limitations of generic methods for the communication of information; issues underlying information and communication design; as well as two cases of multi-disciplinary multi-national projects. The value of this paper is that it includes practical examples to inform information and communication design by personnel in project businesses. Further, practical recommendations for reducing time and cost are provided. Furthermore, these practical recommendations are related to the challenges highlighted by established theory.             "abstractNote": "The saying-is-believing (SIB) effect occurs when tailoring a message to suit an audience influences a communicator's subsequent memories and impressions about the communication topic. Previous studies were restricted to one-person audiences and individuals as the communication topic. The present studies explored the SIB effect with multiple-person audiences and groups as the communication topic. In Study 1, the SIB effect occurred with a 1-person, but not a 3-person, audience. In Study 2, the SIB effect occurred with a 3-person audience when the audience explicitly validated communicators' messages. These findings demonstrate the generalizability of the SIB effect to group contexts, provide further evidence for a shared reality interpretation of this effect, and suggest a potentially important mechanism underlying stereotype development.             "abstractNote": "Questions on how sensitive internal communicators need to be when segmenting audiences according to age and what language to use when communicating to global audiences and advertising in internal magazines are answered. According John Clifford of Pitney Bowes, segmentation is about knowing your audience so that you can engage intelligently and persuasively with them, in a way that they will appreciate. People should have as many methods of communication as they can reasonably budget for, in order to reach all employees with equal impact. On the issue of selling advertising space to support a staff magazine, Tony Brannan, of YesCity, says unless you have a uniquely attractive audience, you will be competing with numerous other publications that reach all or part of your employee audience. Ruth Findlay of Scottish Water says they felt that for selling advertising space to work they would need a robust policy detailing the type of company that could advertise in the newspaper and what would constitute as acceptable advertising messages.",
