multicast-unicast de servicios de descarga de archivos a varios usuarios simultáneamente en redes móviles 3G con HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) y con MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services). HSDPA soporta transmisiones de alta velocidad (hasta varios Mb/s) punto a punto (p-t-p), mientras que con MBMS el mismo contenido puede ser transmitido mediante una conexión punto a multipunto (p-t-m) a todos los usuarios en la celda de forma unidireccional. La transmisión inicial del fichero se realiza mediante una conexión p-t-m con MBMS. Sin embargo, habrá usuarios que no sean capaces de recibir el archivo tras la transmisión inicial debido a que están situados en zonas de mala o nula cobertura. Éstos usuarios pueden realizar una fase de reparación de errores, en la cual es posible utilizar tanto conexiones p-t-p con HSDPA, como p-t-m con MBMS. El artículo incide en la transmisión eficiente de estos servicios en futuras redes móviles 3G. El criterio adoptado ha sido el de minimizar la energía de transmisión necesaria para alcanzar una probabilidad de adquisición del fichero determinada (porcentaje de usuarios que reciben correctamente el fichero). Ésta se define como el producto de la potencia transmitida por el tiempo de transmisión. Se ha investigado la configuración óptima de la transmisión híbrida multicast-unicast, incluyendo la fase de transmisión inicial, y el balance entre la fase de la transmisión inicial y la fase de reparación. Además, se ha evaluado su ganancia con respecto al caso de utilizar solamente conexiones p-t-p con HSDPA o solamente conexiones p-t-m con MBMS.   PALABRAS CLAVE: MBMS, Servicio de Descarga de Ficheros Transmisión híbrida multicast-unicast.       ABSTRACT  In this article we discuss multicast-unicast file delivery in Evolved 3G (E3G) mobile networks equipped with HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services). HSDPA supports high speed point-to-point (p-t-p) transmissions (up to several Mb/s), whereas with MBMS the same content is transmitted with a point-to-multipoint (p-t-m) connection to multiple users in a unidirectional fashion. The initial file transmission is performed with a p-t-m connection with MBMS. However, there will be some users not able to receive the file after the initial transmission, as they might have experienced too bad reception conditions. These users can complete the download in a post-delivery repair phase, where it is possible to perform both p-t-p and p-t-m connections with HSDPA and MBMS. The article focuses on the efficient transmission of file download services in future E3G mobile networks. The approach of minimizing the transmission energy to achieve a target file acquisition probability (percentage of users that successfully receive the file), defined as the product of the transmit power times the transmission time, has been adopted. We investigate the optimum multicast-unicast transmission configuration, including the initial file transmission and the trade-off between the initial file transmission phase and the post-delivery repair phase. The link-level simulations model all physical layer features depicted in the 3GPP standards. These include: generation of transport blocks; turbo coding; rate matching; spreading; scrambling; modulation. At the receiver side, all complementary blocks are designed, with soft-decision demodulation, and a turbo decoder using the MAP (maximum a posteriori) algorithm with 8 iterations. An analytical formula is defined that fits the CQI (channel quality indicator) dependent BLER (block error rate) versus Eb/N0 results in an AWGN channel. This formula models the physical layer in the network-level simulator. A further extension for frequency selective fading channels has been defined. The network-level simulator includes propagation models that provide SNR values. Based on these SNR values and the simplified physical layer model, an algorithm selects the CQI, and determines the actual BLER at time of reception. The rounding down and delaying of the CQI reporting, which corresponds to the W-CDMA standard, has a significant impact on throughput and transfer delay of the HS-DSCH. Some compensation can be found in a modified transmission. The integration of the link-level and network-level simulators gives accurate and realistic results that can be used in more studies that focus on network layer aspects of packet based services over considered for the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) evolution of WCDMA. The two HARQ combining schemes are Chase combining, where the retransmissions are identical copies of the original transmission, and incremental redundancy (IR), where the retransmissions consist of new parity bits from the channel encoder. We show that the link-level performance of a HARQ type-II system can be significantly better with IR compared to Chase combining. The largest gains are obtained for high channel-coding rates and high modulation orders. For low modulation and coding schemes (MCS), the link-level performance gains with IR are less significant. We further show that in a system that uses link adaptation we can not expect any large gains with IR as long as the link adaptation errors are reasonably small. The two HARQ combining schemes are Chase combining, where the retransmissions are identical copies of the original transmission, and incremental redundancy (IR), where the retransmissions consist of new parity bits from the channel encoder. We show that the link-level performance of a HARQ type-II system can be significantly better with IR compared to Chase combining. The largest gains are obtained for high channel-coding rates and high modulation orders. For low modulation and coding schemes (MCS), the link-level performance gains with IR are less significant. We further show that in a system that uses link adaptation we can not expect any large gains with IR as long as the link adaptation errors are reasonably small. multicast-unicast de servicios de descarga de archivos a varios usuarios simultáneamente en redes móviles 3G con HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) y con MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services). HSDPA soporta transmisiones de alta velocidad (hasta varios Mb/s) punto a punto (p-t-p), mientras que con MBMS el mismo contenido puede ser transmitido mediante una conexión punto a multipunto (p-t-m) a todos los usuarios en la celda de forma unidireccional. La transmisión inicial del fichero se realiza mediante una conexión p-t-m con MBMS. Sin embargo, habrá usuarios que no sean capaces de recibir el archivo tras la transmisión inicial debido a que están situados en zonas de mala o nula cobertura. Éstos usuarios pueden realizar una fase de reparación de errores, en la cual es posible utilizar tanto conexiones p-t-p con HSDPA, como p-t-m con MBMS. El artículo incide en la transmisión eficiente de estos servicios en futuras redes móviles 3G. El criterio adoptado ha sido el de minimizar la energía de transmisión necesaria para alcanzar una probabilidad de adquisición del fichero determinada (porcentaje de usuarios que reciben correctamente el fichero). Ésta se define como el producto de la potencia transmitida por el tiempo de transmisión. Se ha investigado la configuración óptima de la transmisión híbrida multicast-unicast, incluyendo la fase de transmisión inicial, y el balance entre la fase de la transmisión inicial y la fase de reparación. Además, se ha evaluado su ganancia con respecto al caso de utilizar solamente conexiones p-t-p con HSDPA o solamente conexiones p-t-m con MBMS.   PALABRAS CLAVE: MBMS, Servicio de Descarga de Ficheros Transmisión híbrida multicast-unicast.       ABSTRACT  In this article we discuss multicast-unicast file delivery in Evolved 3G (E3G) mobile networks equipped with HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services). HSDPA supports high speed point-to-point (p-t-p) transmissions (up to several Mb/s), whereas with MBMS the same content is transmitted with a point-to-multipoint (p-t-m) connection to multiple users in a unidirectional fashion. The initial file transmission is performed with a p-t-m connection with MBMS. However, there will be some users not able to receive the file after the initial transmission, as they might have experienced too bad reception conditions. These users can complete the download in a post-delivery repair phase, where it is possible to perform both p-t-p and p-t-m connections with HSDPA and MBMS. The article focuses on the efficient transmission of file download services in future E3G mobile networks. The approach of minimizing the transmission energy to achieve a target file acquisition probability (percentage of users that successfully receive the file), defined as the product of the transmit power times the transmission time, has been adopted. We investigate the optimum multicast-unicast transmission configuration, including the initial file transmission and the trade-off between the initial file transmission phase and the post-delivery repair phase. El planeamiento urbanístico tiene una gran responsabilidad en la gestación de la demanda urbana de movilidad y condiciona de forma importante las posibles respuestas a la misma, en la medida en que define los modelos territoriales y urbanos, la densidad, la distribución espacial de los usos, etc., principales condicionantes de la demanda de movilidad; localiza y diseña los espacios públicos y la red viaria, favoreciendo explícita o implícitamente a unos u otros medios de transporte; regula la cantidad y disposición de las plazas de aparcamiento, etc. De ahí que, en la perspectiva de promover medios de transporte alternativos al vehículo privado, sea cada día más urgente introducir en la práctica de la planificación urbanística la reflexión sobre las consecuencias que las decisiones urbanísticas tienen en el ámbito de la movilidad y, por tanto, en el uso del automóvil y sus impactos asociados. Este trabajo pretende plantear, precisamente, algunas de las bases de esta necesaria reflexión. Abstract In last decades, car ownership and private vehicle use are steadily growing in cities all over the world, and so do energy consumption, pollution, noise, visual intrusion, accidents, danger and traffic congestion. Urban planning has a great responsibility in travel demand and in its solutions: defining urban patterns, density and uses location, main factors influencing travel demand; designing public space and streets as well as parking places number and location, main conditions for the efficiency of different transport modes. In the aim of promoting alternative transport means to private automobile, discussions about travel consequences of urban planning decisions should be kept in every planning process.
