"abstractNote": "Background and objectives: Despite concerns raised for expanding nutrition training in health professional education, its implementation is below desired. The road to effective and efficient integration of nutrition in training of future physicians is still unpaved in developing countries. This is especially important in India where both under and over nutrition are the prime causes of morbidity and mortality. Objective: Present work is an innovative experiment in public health nutrition education for medical students. In India, physicians' training encompasses basic and clinical years. Methods: It was attempted to provide the necessary orientation in first year when students get familiar to Biochemistry, Physiology and Community medicine with the objective of taking up nutritional inquiry when they move to clinical years. Intervention: The study was conducted in SCB Medical College, Orissa. Forty-four randomly selected first-year medical students were taught dietary behavior with a grounding on principles of medical anthropology and behavioral sciences; basics of nutritional assessment using anthropometrics and dietary intake assessment through FFQ. They calculated self anthropometric data, assessed own eating behavior from dietary intake analysis and compared the same with FAO's Indiabased dietary guidelines and ICMR-prescribed dietary recommendations. Next, using the data collected and consultations with registered dieticians working in hospital and faculty, these students were encouraged to develop dietary prescriptions to improve their overall nutritional wellness. Subsequently, they were given practicum where they applied the same skills to perform nutritional assessment and provide prescriptions to the patients. Results: The experiment group students had better nutrition practice skills as assessed through OSCE performance outcome. A significant difference in knowledge and attitude were observed among intervention groups when compared to control. Conclusions: Teaching nutrition to medical students in first year could prepare them adequately to impart effective nutritional counseling and support to their patient in clinical practice years.",

"abstractNote": "Development of health promotion is rapid and tangible in the more economically developed countries (U. S., Canada, U. K., Australia etc), whereas the progress of health promotion towards establishing it in less economically developed countries has been slow. In the future, health promotion will be long term and even though government and international organizations are spending millions of dollars, health promotion continues to be surrounded by many challenges. Health promotion hospital (HPH) needs to link organizational health promoting activities with continuous quality improvement programs. So far we have little knowledge that a HPH is better than a non-HPH. Also, only limited resources have been used to strengthen health promotion, so there is no reason to believe that it has a detrimental effect on hospital activities by reallocating resources from the core functions of the hospital. Future work is required to be carried out in developing indicators and a self-assessment tool for standards in health promotion in order to strengthen the systematic planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion in hospitals.",

"abstractNote": "Healthcare workers including physicians, nurses, medical technicians and administrative staff experience high levels of occupational stress as a result of heavy workloads, extended working hours and time-related pressure. The aims of this study were to investigate factors associated with work stress among hospital staff members and to evaluate their health-promoting lifestyle behaviors. We conducted a cross-sectional study from May 1, 2010 to July 30, 2010 and recruited 775 professional staff from two regional hospitals in Taiwan using purposive sampling. Demographic data and self-reported symptoms related to work-related stress were collected. Each subject completed the Chinese versions of the Job Content Questionnaire (C-JCQ) and The Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLSP). Linear and binary regression analyses were applied to identify associations between these two measurements and subjects' characteristics, and associations between the two measurements and stress symptoms. Self-reported symptoms of work-related stress included 64.4% of subjects reporting nervousness, 33.7% nightmares, 44.1% irritability, 40.8% headaches, 35.0% insomnia, and 41.4% gastrointestinal upset. C-JCQ scores for psychological demands of the job and discretion to utilize skills had a positive correlation with stress-related symptoms; however, the C-JCQ scores for decision-making authority and social support correlated negatively with stress-related symptoms except for nightmares and irritability. All items on the HPLSP correlated negatively with stress-related symptoms except for irritability, indicating an association between subjects' symptoms and a poor quality of health-promoting lifestyle behaviors. We found that high demands, little decision-making authority, and low levels of social support were associated with the development of stress-related symptoms. The results also suggested that better performance on or a higher frequency of health-promoting life-style behaviors might reduce the chances of hospital staff developing stress-related symptoms. Our report may contribute to the development of educational programs designed to encourage members of high stress groups among the hospital staff to increase their health-promoting behaviors.",

"abstractNote": "The aim was to obtain patients' experiences of the cancer treatment pathway at a tertiary teaching hospital using unstructured journals to enable health care professionals to be educated on how to improve patient care. Most of 38 patients (22 females and 16 males), average age of 58 (range 29-80), who returned diaries were starting chemotherapy for a range of cancers. Data entries were transcribed and entered into the NVIVO software to facilitate thematic analysis. Women wrote more, and more often than men, and disclosed more. For most, physical side effects dominated, comprising 25-75 % of diary entries. The most commonly mentioned were fatigue (74 %), pain (63 %), sleep disturbances (50 %), nausea (45 %) and changes in appetite (45 %). Collectively, 22 patients reported 261 separate emotional reactions including depression, anger, guilt, shame, grief, panic and confusion. The treatment environment, including personnel, impacted upon patients. Where survival is unpredictable, evidence of consistency of practitioners' approaches attains heightened significance.",
