"abstractNote": "Se presentan las diapositivas correspondientes al curso impartido en la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, el 9 de marzo de 2013, sobre los indicadores bibliométricos utilizados para la evaluación de las publicaciones científicas. Tras repasar cual es la filosofía y principios que rigen el sistema español de evaluación científica, nos centramos en los criterios empleados por la CNEAI y la ANECA, se enseña a utilizar indicadores, como el factor de impacto tanto en los JCR de Thomson como otros índices que calculan actualmente el impacto de las revistas medido por recuentos de citas. Asimismo se enseña a buscar citas a los documentos científicos y a determinar cuáles son las revistas de calidad utilizando criterios como la indexación en bases de datos de prestigio o el cumplimiento de criterios de calidad editorial. Se concluye enseñando a crear perfiles científicos con Google Scholar Citations, y posteriormente se repasan todas las herramientas que pueden ser utilizadas para demostrar los indicios de calidad de las publicaciones.",

"abstractNote": "El futuro de las revistas científicas en Latinoamérica es incierto. La incapacidad de calcular indicadores bibliométricos útiles para clasificarlas y homologarlas con cuartiles de referencia mundial reducen su visibilidad. Por ejemplo, las revistas colombianas clasificadas en la Base Bibliográfica Nacional Publindex (BBNP) bajo las categorías A1, A2, B y C, poseen baja indexación en bases de datos internacionales como Web of Science o Scopus, limitando la estimación de indicadores bibliométricos para su comparación a nivel internacional. Como estudio de caso se seleccionaron 211 revistas de la BBNP-2008, tomando artículos publicados entre 2003 y 2007. Utilizando Google Académico, el software Publish or Perish y la base de datos Scopus, se cuantificaron y compararon indicadores de productividad e impacto para construir un ranking local (Q1-Q4) y realizar una homologación internacional con Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). El índice h resultó el mejor indicador para generar un ranking basado en cuartiles (Q1-Q4) de 170 revistas colombianas, homologables con cuartiles de SJR. Se propone esta metodología para clasificar y homologar las revistas latinoamericanas no indexadas, como herramienta útil para editores, editoriales, empresas de información y tomadores de decisiones en políticas públicas de educación, ciencia y tecnología a nivel regional y mundial.",

"abstractNote": "The general objective of this report is to offer structured information regarding the scientific output of Spanish researchers by area of knowledge, at the national and international levels, as a tool for the analysis of opportunities for emerging areas of knowledge, and to look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Spanish system of science and technology. \nThe present paper deals exclusively with the results of research registered by the internationally visible publications in the databases of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) during the period 1998-2002. Patents are excluded, as are results pertaining to technological innovation. In particular, the data aim to:\n• Determine the volume of scientific output that is internationally visible at the regional and national level. \n• Describe the evolution over time and compare levels of output in the international realm.\n• Define the patterns of scientific communication of Spanish researchers in the different subject areas.\n• Determine the scientific output on different levels of aggregation (geographical and thematic).\n• Estimate the international standing of Spanish science in terms of impact and effort/resources. \n• Identify the networks of collaboration and their characteristics.",
