Cette étude porte sur la modification du rôle de la relation formative dans les systèmes d'apprentissage autodirigé qui reposent sur la prise en charge par l'apprenant de son apprentissage avec la possibilité de recourir à une personne-ressource - le conseiller. Afin de préciser les contours du genre professionel spécifique du conseil en langues, ce travail se fonde sur l'étude des pratiques langagières et formatives dans les entretiens de conseil. Différents champs disciplinaires sont convoqués pour spécifier le conseil comme genre de pratiques singulier. Ce travail s'attache à mettre au jour la spécificité de l'accompagnement à l'autoformation que propose le conseil en langues, et partant, questionne les fondamentaux de l'accompagnement à l'autoformation en langues étrangères.",

            "abstractNote": "Publication autorisée par le jury [Résumé en français] La présente thèse rend compte de l'analyse menée auprès de conseillers et d'apprenants de trois centres de ressources Mexicains en milieu universitaire. A travers une étude comparative, elle montre d'une part, comment les approches conceptuelles qui ont donné naissance aux centres sont déterminantes dans leur mise en place. Elle montre, d'autre part, que c'est en fonction des représentations que les conseillers ont de l'apprentissage des langues, en général, et de l'apprentissage à réaliser dans ce type de lieux, en particulier, mais aussi en fonction de l'objectif donné au centre, qu'ils mettent en place les services et le matériel qu'ils considèrent nécessaires pour permettre à l'apprentissage d'avoir lieu. Elle conclue que chaque centre a un fonctionnement unique, c'est un point de rencontre entre ce que les conseillers proposent et ce que les apprenants, en prenant en compte leur singularité, puisent dans le centre pour donner forme à leur projet d'apprentissage.[Résumé en anglais] This thesis looks at the analysis of both advisors and learners from three Mexican self-access centers located in a university setting. Through a comparative study, the thesis shows how the conceptual approaches that gave birth to the centers had a determining effect on their setup. The thesis also shows that it is in accordance with the beliefs that advisors have of language learning in general, and of the learning that is done in a center in particular, but also in accordance with the goals set down by the center that they put in place the services and the materials that they consider necessary to permit learning to take place. The thesis concludes that each center has a unique form of functioning, which is a meeting point between what the advisors propose and what the learners, taking into account their individuality, find in the center to give form to their personal learning project.",

            "abstractNote": "Publication autorisée par le jury \n\nCette thèse pose les fondements d'une théorie agentique de l'apprentissage des langues étrangères. Les étudiants peuvent-ils apprendre à être à l'origine d'actes qui conduisent à la réussite en langues ? Notre recherche montre que c'est en raison d'expériences naïves que les étudiants perçoivent leurs capacités dans ce domaine. En revanche, les cours ne permettent pas aux élèves d'accéder à la compétence, ni de percevoir leur capacité personnelle d'agir (pour apprendre). Cette étude avance la thèse que si nombre d'élèves se sentent rassurés en protégeant leur bien-être psychique, tout en évitant les risques aptes à les conduire à la réussite, c'est en raison de contraintes rencontrées en milieu scolaire. Les étudiants souscrivent à des croyances qui limitent de facto leur potentiel. Ce constat soulève le paradoxe d'une école qui donne la défaite à ses élèves. Le modèle de la causalité réciproque souligne la nécessité urgente d'oeuvrer ensemble pour construire une \"écologie de l'apprenance\" nouvelle et plus efficace.\n\nThis dissertation lays the foundations for an agentic theory of foreign language learning. Can students learn to be at the origin of acts which lead to success with foreign languages? Our research shows that it is due to naïve experience that students perceive their ability in this skills domain. In contrast, academic language learning does not seem to provide students with the ability to speak the language, nor to perceive their personal capability to learn agentically. This study puts forward the thesis that due to constraints encountered in schools, many students find more comfort in protecting their psychic well-being than in taking risks that may lead to success. Students adopt self-defeating beliefs which limit their potential, and paradoxically, schools seem to be a major part of the problem. The model of reciprocal causation stresses the urgent need to work together to construct a new and more efficient \"ecology of learnance\".",

            "abstractNote": "Design is at the heart of vocational training programmes. That is the reason why teaching design and training students to design are major concerns of engineering schools. Our participation in this training favours a particular approach: reflexive practice. The Reflexive pedagogy lays the emphasis on the metaphorical dimension of learning. It is based on the idea that if the learner understands his/her own mental processes while learning, she/he learns better, by learning to learn. Reflexive thinking in our application is supported by a graphical representation. This graphic should enable the learners to turn the idea they are building up of their design activity into a kind of object. This article presents the reflective pedagogy that we have been using for several years now in collaboration with lecturers in technology to foster training in design for future engineers.",

            "abstractNote": "It is a long and winding road from invention to innovation. Starting from this observation, this paper presents a historical perspective on the capabilities engineers should possess to do their work. The importance of the ‘communicative competence’ involved in creating a social base for innovation is underpinned. We will present a theoretical framework with regard to engineering and society and argue that this competence requires a good understanding of the social dynamics of technology as well as the ability to communicate on the level of facts, values and emotions. Three particular skills are extensively discussed: orientation on the future and the abilities involved in dialogue and cultural differences. We will argue that engineers can develop this new competence through project learning.",

            "abstractNote": "This paper shows how a study in educational sciences focused on the concept of ‘competence’ can bring about changes in the pedagogical methods used when training engineers. Instead of using personality traits to understand innovators, a PhD study focused on practices and competencies revealed that, amongst other things, self-directed learning skills are of prime importance in the success of innovation processes. This led the teaching staff of a French engineering school to set up a project aimed at integrating self-directed learning into the curriculum. Applied to English language learning, the system described here is based on an alternation between active and reflexive phases. It also provides students with continuous support, thus transforming the role of the teachers into facilitators. Consequently, the development of students’ linguistic skills requires an evolution in teachers’ professional competencies.",

            "abstractNote": "In this paper, the researchers analyse written discursive devices that learning advisors (LAs) at their institution use in order to give input to learners on their self-directed work. The researchers analysed written advising approaches by seven LAs throughout an eight-week period and coded the discursive devices according to their degree of directiveness. The results of the research indicate that LAs draw on a range of discursive devices and use varying degrees of directiveness when addressing the needs and learning stage of the students. The results have implications for LA training at the authors’ institution.",
