développement et la pérennisation des activités de nombreuses institutions et entreprises. Dans le cadre de nos travaux, nous nous consacrons au problème de la communication interpersonnelle dans des contextes d'innovation. En ce sens, notre intérêt concerne les démarches de veille créative, une veille qui se positionne en amont du processus d'innovation pour fournir un apport informationnel pour, d'une part, positionner son organisation dans une perspective d'innovation et, d'autre part, pouvoir comprendre et résoudre un problème d'innovation posé par un décideur stratégique. Pour se faire, nous pensons qu'une personne à qui on confie un problème d'innovation doit être en mesure de gérer certaines difficultés : identifier ce que peut être une innovation du point du vue du décideur, pouvoir définir les sujets possédant un fort potentiel d'innovation, communiquer à ses éventuels partenaires le champ d'innovation à investiguer, être en mesure de repérer des idées sources d'innovation, etc. Il s'agit alors de repérer et de mettre en forme ces idées pour contribuer au processus décisionnel. Boundary objects are typically developed and used in change programmes to provide a common frame of reference for communication across different domains of knowledge and practice. In this paper an alternative framing, based upon boundary objects as forms of texts, is developed. Three discursive approaches are used to re-analyze existing contributions to the literature. First, 'intertextual analysis' (Allen, 2000) is applied to Brown's (2004) work on public inquiry reports. Second, 'recontextualization' (Bernstein, 1996) is used to reconsider Sapsed and Salter's (2004) work on project management tools. Finally, Gantt charts (Yakura, 2002) are re-examined using Iedema's (1999) concept of 'formalization'. Through an analysis of the interplay between boundary object and broker, we uncover the dynamics of the innovation process and show that the role played by the broker can be political. We identify two strategies that are used by brokers in the selection of a boundary object. The first is directed towards achieving a balance between the actors involved and the second is directed towards controlling their activities.
