Ce mémoire vise à étudier le déficit d'eau observé à différents endroits dans le bassin de la Dyle pour la période 1959-1960, 1962-1963. L'étude vise également à évaluer la nécessité de développer l'irrigation dans le bassin versant.

Le sujet a déjà été étudié par G.Sion (1960). L'objectif de la présente étude est d'améliorer et de compléter l'étude qui a été commencée prcédemment.

La caractérisation des propriétés hydrodynamiques du sol est basée sur 9 profils de sol qui ont été décrits et échantillonnés. Les données climatiques provenaient du réseau de l'IRM.

Le bilan hydrologique a été établi à l'échelle du bassin versant et à l'échelle des profils 9.

Dans la dernière partie du mémoire, certaines mesures de la qualité de l'eau sont présentées et confrontées à des critères de qualité de l'eau pour l'irrigation.

Abstract

This master thesis aims studying the water deficit observed in different places in the Dyle catchment for the period 1959-1960, 1962-1963. The study aims also the need for developing irrigation in the catchment.

\n

The subject  was already studied by G.Sion (1960). The goal of the current study is to improve and complete the  study that was started before.

\n

Soil hydrodynamic characterization was based on 9 soil profiles that were described and sampled. Climatic data were from the IRM network.

\n

The hydrological balance was established at the watershed scale and at the scale of the 9 profiles.

\n

In the last part of the thesis, some water quality measurements are reported and confronted with water quality criteria for irrigation.

In this report, a method is proposed to get a spatial picture of the actual evapotranspiration in the Dyle catchment for the period (1970-1978). Use is made of the Bultot-Depriez evapotranspiration model and aerial photographs allowing to infer land use and to adapt evapotranspiration in terms of land use.

Dans ce mémoire, l'équilibre hydrologique de certains sols de bassins versants de la Dyle (Heverlee, Château d'Arenberg) est étudié pour une année sèche (1959) et une année plus humide (1960). Le mémoire calcule également la débit de la Dyle pour les évènements pluvieux exceptionnels en amont de Louvain. L'événement exceptionnel se réfère à un cas de 1891. D'après les mesures historiques, il a été estimé que le débit à Louvain pourrait atteindre de 105 à 126 m³/s. Cela a été reconstruit par la méthode du modèle conceptuel.

In this master thesis, the hydrological balance of some soils of the Dyle catchments  (Heverlee, Castle of Arenberg) is studied for a dry year (1959) and a more wet year (1960). The thesis also calculates the discharge of the Dyle for exceptional rainfall events upstream of Leuven. The exceptional event refers to a case of 1891. Following historical measurements, it was estimated that discharge in Leuven could reach of 105-126 m3/s. This was  reconstructed by the conceptual model approach.

Le projet FDS 150 vise à consolider la base scientifique pour conceptualiser un plan de gestion des ressources en eau du bassin versant supérieur de la Dyle (en amont d'Archennes). Ce rapport final résume les résultats des études réalisées pendant 1975-1978. Les données de précipitations, des niveaux de l'aquifère, de l'humidité du sol et des débits de la rivière ont été collectées sur 33 sites différents dans le bassin de la Dyle. Le rapport est composé des sections suivantes:

1) Hydrométéorologie. Calcul des entrées du bilan hydrique : précipitations et évapotranspiration (mise en place de pluviomètres).

The FDS 150 project aims to consolidate the scientific basis for designing a water resources management plan of the upper Dyle watershed (upstream of Archennes). This final report resumes the results of the study performed between 1975-1978. Data of rainfall, aquifer levels, soil moisture and river discharge were collected on 33 different locations in the Dyle catchment. The report is decomposed in the following sections  :

Ce projet est le suivi du projet FDS150 (voir \"Connexe\") réalisés durant 1975-1978. Contrairement au projet précédent, qui mettait l'accent principalement sur les termes quantitatifs du bilan hydrique, ce projet se concentre davantage sur les termes qualitatifs des ressources en eau dans le bassin de la Dyle.

Le rapport se décline en 4 sections :

1) Hydrogéochimie de l'eau. Cette partie se concentre sur les nitrates, et l'interprétation de la chimie de l'eau. En outre, la tarière profonde a démontré la présence de couches dures de carbonate dans la formation de sable tertiaire.

2) Zone non saturée. Des mesures de l'eau du sol entre 1978-1981 ont été effectués à 16 endroits différents dans le bassin versant. La recharge des eaux souterraines varie entre 200 et 275 mm/an pour la période 1975-1981, mais à certains endroits, c'était 400mm en 1980. Le sol à Louvain-la-Neuve était représentatif des sols du bassin versant.

3) Hydrologie des eaux de surface (relation rivière-aquifère). Plus de 40 mesures télémétriques ont permis de quantifier le bilan hydrologique des eaux de surface. Certains de ces points de mesure sont situés sur des sections de contrôle. D'autres ont été mis en place dans des conditions d'écoulement naturel. De plus, des expériences avec des traceurs couleur ont été réalisées pour évaluer le débit de la rivière.

4) Modélisation des aquifères. Un modèle d'écoulement hydrogéologique stochastique a été développé. Des outils géostatistiques ont été appliqués pour modéliser les hauteurs et lconcentrations mesurées des eaux souterraines.

5) Une base de données hydrologiques a été maintenue. La base de données comprend 200.000 mesures. Le support de cette base de données est une bande magnétique.

This project is the follow-up project of the FDS150 project (see Related Files) realized during 1975 to 1978. In contrast to the previous project, that mainly focussed on the quantitative terms of the water balance, this project focuses more on the qualitative terms of the water resources in the Dyle watershed.

\n

The report is declined in 4 sections

\n

1) Water hydrogeochemistry. This part concentrates on nitrates, and interpretation of water chemistry. Also, deep augering has demonstrated the presence of hard carbonate layers in the tertiary sand formation.

\n

2) Unsaturated zone. Soil water measurement between 1978-1981 were made at 16 different locations in the catchment. Groundwater recharge varied between 200 and 275 mm/year for the period 1975-1981, but at some location was 400 mm in 1980. The soil in Louvain-la-Neuve was representative for the soils in the catchment.

\n

3) Surface water hydrology (river-aquifer relation). More than 40 telemetric measurements allowed quantifying the surface water hydrological balance. Some of the measurement points were located on control sections. Other were established in natural flow conditions. Also color tracer experiments were performed for assessing the river flow.

\n

4) Aquifer modelling. A stochastic hydrogeological flow model was developed. Geostatistical tools were applied to model the measured groundwater height and concentrations.

5) A hydrological data base was maintained. The data base comprises 200 000 measurements. The  support of this data base is on a magnetic tape.

Des mesures de la densité de l'eau du sol et du sol ont été réalisées avec une sonde double source neutron-gamma dans la zone non saturée de Louvain-la-Neuve jusqu'à une profondeur de 38m. Les mesures ont été réalisées pour la période de 1976 à 1977. Les mesures ont montré que le profil de l'humidité du sol est très variable en profondeur (dépend probablement des hétérogénéités locales). La variation dans le temps est moins importante mais significative.

Soil water and soil density measurements were performed with a double source neutron-gamma probe in the unsaturated zone of Louvain-la-Neuve upto a depth of  38 m. Measurements were performed for the period of 1976-1977. The measurements elucidate that the soil moisture profile is very variable in depth (probably depends on local heterogeneities). Time variation is less important but significant.

Résumé

Cette étude vise à établir une évaluation hydrologique et hydrogéologique du bassin versant du Train afin de comprendre la présence de débits relativement élevés durant la période annuelle de débit minimum.

Conclusion

\n

- L'étude détaillée de la carte piézométrique montre que le sens de l'écoulement des eaux souterraines est similaire à celle de la direction de l'écoulement de surface de la rivière Train (S-N).

- L'étude de l'équilibre hydrogéologique montre que cet équilibre est fonction du temps. Il est très influencé par le facteur «de phase» (c'est-à-dire le temps de retard entre la dynamique climatique et les eaux souterraines).

Abstract

\n

This study aims to establish a hydrological and hydrogeological assessment of the Train watershed in order to understand the presence of relative high flows even during the minimum annual flow period.

\n

Conclusion

\n

- The detailed study of the piezometric map shows that the direction of the groundwater flow is similar as the direction of the  surface  water flow of the Train river (S-N).

\n

- The study of the  hydrogeological balance shows that this balance is time dependent. It's very much  influenced by the \"phase\" factor (i.e. time delay between climatic and groundwater dynamic).
