Froissart's Chonicles form one of the most common contemporary accounts of the Hundred Years War. Although he was not present for many of the occurrences of the war he draws on other chroniclers of the time including Jean Le Bel. Like most chronicles the actual hard facts are highly unreliable, but the general points he makes are invaluable in the study of the Hundred Years War.

This is a history of the first half of the Hundred Years War focused almost entirely on the military aspects of the war, and neglects to account for the many political and other dimensions of the war for the most part. Burne was a Colonel in the British army so much of what he has to say is examining this phase of the Hundred Years War through a more modern military perspective.

A reexamination of Edward III's strategy from the Scottish wars through the Treaty of Bretigny. Empasizes the fact that Edward sought to draw his opponents into decisive battles through the use of the chevauchee like in the cases of Crecy and Poitiers. He believes that every campaingn of Edward's was intended solely to draw the enemy into such an event where the superior English tactics, including the utilization of the long bow, would be able to win the battle bringing major political and strategic benefits.
