He identified five facets of a learning environment including: information banks, symbol pads. construction kits, phenomenaria, and task managers. This paper proposes a plan for information literacy instruction that adopts Perkins's (1992) five facets of learning environment through a technology foundation that includes some constructivist learning approaches. Foremost the plan enhances the librarian's visibility in the student's course work through faculty-librarian collaboration utilizing problem-based learning as well as the promotion of the embedded librarian in community colleges. An additional feature of this proposal includes an interactive tutorial that incorporates gaming software to increase student engagement in the learning environment. Lastly, options for face-to-face bibliographic instruction in a library's electronic classroom are also components of the plan. Ultimately the plan utilizes technologies, novel and traditional learning theories, and innovative instructional approaches to engage students in information literacy instruction.
