In methanol solution, the vanillin-dipyrrin compound exists as a hemiquinone species, whereas the complexes exist in a phenolic form. This molecule showed a red-magenta color in methanol, in contrast to yellowish allyl-protected-dipyrrin. In the presence of zinc or copper ions, the vanillin-dipyrrin solution turned into a pale-yellow complex, similar to that of protected-dipyrrin. A computational study of the ligands and complexes showed a close relevance, where the energy transition between the highest molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the ligand in the hemiquinone form had a lower energy transition, and the two complexes showed slightly different transition energies. Besides working as a reducing agent, the p-aminobenzoic acid and p-aminosalicylic acid also simultaneously played a role as a capping agent/stabilizing agent. Gold ion was first mixed with the pH adjusted p-aminobenzoic acid and p-aminosalicylic acid. The mixture then heated in boiling water at 86 °C. The formation of AuNPs was indicated by the appearance of red color and analyzed with UV/Vis spectrophotometry to evaluate their surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption in the wavelength range 400–800 nm. The reducing ability of the reducing agents was affected by its structure. Gold nanoparticles that were synthesized with p-aminosalicylic acid were more stable, faster and had a smaller size than its counterpart that is synthesized with p-aminobenzoic acid. This work was conducted in order to determine the optimum condition of AuNPs synthesis and examine the effect of the hydroxyl group in p-aminosalicylic acid towards the size, shape, and stability of the synthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The optimum condition of the gold nanoparticles synthesis was determined by UV/Vis spectrophotometer, the shape and size of gold nanoparticles were measured by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The synthesis process was started by reacting HAuCl4 and the reducing agents in an aqueous solution at 86 ºC. The initial gold concentration, reducing agents concentration and pH were varied in order to obtain the optimum condition. In the optimum condition, the results showed that p-aminosalicylic acid containing both hydroxyl and amino groups performed higher reduction ability compared to p-aminobenzoic acid that only containing an amino group. Reducing agents which have a hydroxyl group (p-aminosalicylic acid) could produce AuNPs with a smaller concentration of HAuCl4 than p-aminobenzoic acid. A total of 223 samples were collected and analyzed by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA/ICP-MS). For crustal elements such as Al and Mn, their concentrations decreased from the western to central and then only slightly increased in the eastern North Pacific Ocean. The concentrations of anthropogenically derived elements such as Zn and Pb were also significantly higher in the western than in the central and eastern North Pacific Ocean. Both crustal and anthropogenic elements displayed high concentrations in the commonly known dust season (March to May) and low concentrations in the summer (June to August). In winter (November to December), however, only anthropogenic elements showed significantly high concentrations. The high concentrations for crustal elements in the dust season are suggested as resulting from the input of mineral particulate matter transported from the Asian continent by westerly winds. This input does not occur in winter because the land surface is frozen. The westerly winds also distribute anthropogenic elements to the North Pacific Ocean. Arif A.", "lastName": "Aziz" } ], "abstractNote": "The impregnation of zinc particles into MFI zeolite (HZSM-5) caused the formation of catalytically active protonic acid sites for isomerizing n-pentane in the presence of hydrogen. An infrared (IR) study with preadsorbed pyridine revealed that these protonic acid sites originated from the spillover of molecular hydrogen from the zinc species onto the zeolite surface. The requirements for this spillover effect were further studied by IR spectroscopy of adsorbed ammonia and carbon monoxide. The presence of zinc species in HZSM-5 suggested the exchange of acidic character towards strong Lewis acids rather than Brønsted acid sites. This is often hard to estimate, however, due to ascertainment biases inherent in the available genome annotations. Its complement of recognizable functional protein domains and their combinations convey essentially the same information and at the same time are much more readily accessible, although protein domain models trained for one phylogenetic group frequently fail on distantly related sequences. Pooling related domain models based on their GO-annotation in combination with de novo gene prediction methods provides estimates that seem to be less affected by phylogenetic biases. We show here for 18 diverse representatives from all eukaryotic kingdoms that a pooled analysis of the tendencies for co-occurrence or avoidance of protein domains is indeed feasible. This type of analysis can reveal general large-scale patterns in the domain co-occurrence and helps to identify lineage-specific variations in the evolution of protein domains. Somewhat surprisingly, we do not find strong ubiquitous patterns governing the evolutionary behavior of specific functional classes.
