"abstractNote": "I really advocate reading this whole section from the PMLA, not necessarily because the articles are any good, or that I like PMLA, but because if any publication has a monopoly on cultural capital in our profession, it's this journal. Cobb's article most closely correlates to our readings for the week. He's not intensely interested in theory, but he does propose that the digital enables (necessitates?) a new mode of reading that is flighty, surface-y, quick to appreciate and move on. He seems to see the digital as a transition similar to the intensive-extensive reading shift of the early nineteenth century, only from extensive to ... digital. Networked, perhaps. Using facebook and the reading act of the \"like,\" Cobbs examines what it means to \"like\" something, how the \"like\" action changes reading practice, and how we should therefore change our critical reading practices. This seems to get at the heart of the theory/methodology debate: if the digital medium is moving away from the intensive logic of print and toward a flighty logic of networks, so, perhaps, should criticism.",
