            "abstractNote": "OBJECTIVE: This in vitro preliminary study investigated how different ozone formulations affect the adhesion, surface topography, and interfacial ion release of two pediatric bioactive restorative materials.\nMATERIALS AND METHODS: Standardized enamel and dentin surfaces (n=96) from extracted human teeth were randomized into 8 groups which differ by the treatment protocol (no treatment, ozone gas, ozonated water, ozonated gel) and restorative material used (Fuji II LC, ACTIVA Bioactive Restorative). Adhesive performance was evaluated after 7 days of storage (HBSS, 37 °C) by shear bond strength (SBS) test and microscopic fracture mode analysis. Surface roughness (Sa) was measured by optical profilometry; interfacial elemental composition was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray detectors (SEM-EDX).\nRESULTS: Ozone treatment did not significantly affect SBS (mean 3.59±3.23 MPa [min 0.05 MPa; max 11.69 MPa]), fracture modes, or surface roughness (p>0.05 for all domains). Chemical analyses revealed no appreciable difference, with the possible exception of minimal fluoride release.\nCONCLUSIONS: Regardless of the vector agent, ozone treatments showed no significant effect on the short-term adhesion capability of either restorative material, or on the bonding quality with enamel and dentin. Additionally, it seemed that they they neither affected the surface topography nor the possible bioactivity at the interface of the tested materials. However, these preliminary results are restricted to the specific experimental conditions adopted, and further studies are required before any definitive clinical recommendations can be made.",

            "abstractNote": "OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided injections of corticosteroid, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and ozone for treating chronic lateral epicondylitis.\nMETHODS: This multi-center, three-arm, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial enrolled 90 patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis. Participants were randomized in a 1:1:1 ratio to receive a single ultrasound-guided injection of either methylprednisolone, low-leukocyte PRP, or medical ozone. The primary outcomes were pain on the visual analog scale (VAS), function via the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI), and the pressure pain threshold (PPT), assessed at baseline, 8 weeks, and 6 months.\nRESULTS: Eighty of the 90 randomized patients completed the study. All three treatment groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements from baseline across all primary outcome measures at both the 8-week and 6-month follow-ups (p < .05 for all). However, the primary comparative analysis revealed no statistically significant differences between the corticosteroid, PRP, and ozone groups for any outcome measure at any follow-up time point (p > .05 for all between-group comparisons).\nCONCLUSION: Ultrasound-guided injections of corticosteroid, low-leukocyte PRP, and ozone are all effective treatments for improving pain and function in patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis at 6 months. As no single agent proved statistically superior, the choice of therapy should be guided by a process of shared decision-making that considers factors such as patient preference, cost, and desired timeline for relief.",

            "abstractNote": "The administration of ozone has been shown to benefit human and animal health in various areas because of its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antiviral effects. The effects of ozone on the health status of farm animals have not yet been described. This study hypothesises that rectal administration of an oxygen–ozone mixture in sheep is safe and causes no harm to the animals. To evaluate the clinical, haematological, and biochemical responses of sheep following rectal administration of an oxygen–ozone mixture, 10 sheep were used and divided into two experimental groups: the oxygen group (GO2), which was subjected to rectal insufflation with oxygen, and the ozone group (GO2/O3), which was subjected to rectal insufflation with an oxygen-ozone mixture. The treatments were carried out three times a week for four weeks. The animals were clinically assessed before and after all applications, and blood samples were taken at five time points. There were significant differences within the groups in the number of total leucocytes and the serum concentrations of GGT, total protein, albumin, and bilirubin, but the variations did not alter significantly between the treatment and control groups, except for total protein and AST. All variations, significant or not, were all kept within physiological reference limits. The results showed that treatment with the oxygen-ozone mixture did not lead to significant clinical and/or haematological changes in sheep. Therefore, ozone therapy seems to be safe to administer in sheep and should continue to be studied as an alternative treatment option for this species.",

            "abstractNote": "This commentary critically evaluates the translational relevance of a recent study investigating the effects of ozonated saline solution (O3SS) on microglial and endothelial cell models. While the original research proposes potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of low-dose ozone exposure, we identify significant methodological and conceptual flaws that undermine its conclusions. Key concerns include the unjustified assumption that ozone behaves similarly in microwell cultures and clinical infusion settings, despite known physicochemical differences affecting ozone stability and reactivity. The use of immortalized BV2 and HUVEC cells, which lack the complexity of in vivo systems, further limits the study's applicability. The absence of accurate ozone quantification, proper controls, protein-level validation, and kinetic modeling exacerbates these weaknesses. Our analysis also demonstrates, through differential equation modeling, that ozone rapidly decays in saline solutions, making systemic delivery via infusion chemically implausible as a therapeutic approach. Moreover, the extrapolation of in vitro gene expression data to systemic therapeutic claims lacks scientific justification. We conclude that while the observed cellular responses in vitro are of academic interest, they do not support the efficacy or safety of O3SS in clinical settings. A more rigorous approach is necessary to substantiate the biomedical potential of ozonated solutions.",

            "abstractNote": "Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of gas-based therapies for chronic wounds using a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA). Methods: Following PRISMA 2020, we systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CBM from inception to 1 October 2025, screened studies in duplicate, and resolved disagreements by arbitration (κ = 0.87). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) enrolling adults with chronic wounds were eligible; the primary endpoint was complete wound healing. Pairwise meta-analysis used risk ratios (RRs) with 95% CIs; heterogeneity was assessed with Q/I2 and random-effects models were applied when appropriate. A frequentist NMA synthesized direct and indirect evidence, and treatments were ranked with SUCRA. Publication bias (Egger/Begg) and evidence certainty (GRADE) were evaluated. Results: Twenty-seven RCTs comprising 1673 participants were included. In pairwise pooling, gas therapies significantly increased complete healing versus standard care (random-effects RR = 2.17, 95% CI 1.61-2.94), with substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 75.7%); results were directionally consistent and robust to sensitivity analyses. Prespecified subgroup analyses suggested effect modification by intervention type and wound etiology. In the NMA, most gas modalities showed beneficial trends versus standard care; however, SUCRA ranking placed standard care highest (93.9%), a finding attributed by the authors to network structure and between-study variability. Ozone therapy and topical oxygen ranked next, whereas HBOT and cold atmospheric plasma ranked mid-range; CO2 therapy ranked lowest due to sparse evidence. Small-study effects were likely (Egger p < 0.001; Begg p = 0.013), and overall certainty was graded as moderate, limited primarily by heterogeneity, imprecision, and potential publication bias. Conclusions: Across RCTs, gas therapies as a class improve the probability of complete healing in chronic wounds relative to standard care, but effect sizes vary by modality and wound type. Given heterogeneity, possible publication bias, and inconsistencies within the evidence network, these findings should be applied with caution. HBOT remains the modality supported by the broadest evidence base, while large, high-quality, multicenter RCTs are needed to refine comparative effectiveness and safety rankings across gas therapies.",

Ozone therapy, a medical approach that induces controlled oxidative stress to enhance antioxidant defences and modulate immune responses, has emerged as a potential complementary intervention. Evidence suggests that ozone therapy improves pain, fatigue, and sleep quality by correcting oxidative imbalances, enhancing oxygen utilization, and regulating inflammatory pathways. Clinical studies, report significant symptom relief in up to 70% of patients, with minimal adverse effects when administered according to standardized protocols. Despite promising outcomes, the current literature is constrained by small sample sizes, heterogeneity in study designs, and limited long-term follow-up data. Future research should focus on large-scale, well-designed trials, standardized treatment protocols, and mechanistic studies to establish ozone therapy's role in fibromyalgia management.",

            "abstractNote": "Ozone therapy not only has antibacterial effects but also has a series of biological effects. It can stimulate the production of antioxidant enzymes, increase the elasticity of red blood cell membranes, improve blood flow and tissue oxygenation, promote the release of growth factors, and activate cell metabolism and immune function. Through multi-target regulation, ozone therapy has shown significant efficacy in treating skin ulcer diseases such as diabetic foot ulcers and burns, with overall controllable safety. Currently, most research on ozone therapy focuses on the correlation between the ozone concentration and therapeutic efficacy. This review provides a systematic review of the mechanism and clinical research progress of ozone therapy in treating skin ulcer diseases. While ozone therapy has demonstrated notable effectiveness in treating diabetic foot ulcers and other conditions, more rigorous clinical research is necessary to refine treatment plans and create standard guidelines for its use. In the future, the integration of ozone therapy with precision medicine and innovative delivery methods could broaden its application in treating skin ulcer diseases.
