This is another very interesting article. As proven, Franco's have added much to our state and localities. To fully understand their absence in the prevalent political field one must fully look at the contexts of Franco's. This includes schooling, which is in my opinion the biggest institution of cultural molding in the United States. Perhaps the key understanding the lack of prestigious influence on the political spectrum is schooling. Franco's resisted fully Americanize schooling, through La Survience (sp), a conservative idea lacking progression.

If there is high political efficacy in a community, as well as outlet for discontent, such as the Franco's tight bonds with the church, and general contentness it seems logical that the community will have a lesser tendency to engage the greater state. Also, a high emphasis on the Franco community, opposed to the Maine community would attribute, this article talks of the French community and franco journalism, often an important factor in sealing the bonds of a community. This article seems to explore that area in full.

Though an overview of the French in Maine, which we have read much on, it does a fair job talking about their political participation. Most importantly if gives reason to the lag of activity saying it is due to educational facilities and better communications. In Maines history political participation was determined by location, so not only could the French not participate but anglos could not as well. A very promising article as it discusses cultural geographic Franco strongholds in Maine, as well as impediments to the state. Those impediments could be key to why we have not broken into the political ceiling.
