Although music has been indicated by nightclubs and pubs' patrons as the most important service offering, the service marketing literature provides very little guidance on how artists could increase their audience satisfaction with an experiential product such as live music. This paper aims to give a wider understanding of jazz musicians' experience of their role in the creation of live performance. A total of 12 biographical interviews with 16 professional jazz musicians were completed. The respondents identified audience, agents and venue owners as important elements of their product; however, they were inclined to see their live performance rather as an experience created by the product itself. As the quality of relationship between musicians and wider business is in need of significant improvement, this paper identified potential sources of misunderstanding in a saturated and highly competitive marketplace. Practical implications include the need for venue managers to consider the consequences of poor relations with artists, as a bad practice in that area may negatively affect their ability to sustain their customer base. With the improvements in communication and more understanding for employee's feelings, one might create better working conditions, improve work satisfaction and commitment. There are few studies that address the relations between musicians and venue owners, and "since the music is realized in a social and professional context, practitioners may operate different constructions of what is involved from those of observers". Although it may at first appear a simple operation of personal logistics, it is in fact a transaction permeated by judgements on musicianship and musicality, social relations, individual identities and basic economics. Thus, from this perspective, musical events can be seen as symbols which musicians interpret with reference both to their underlying conception of self and their perception of the talents and abilities of those around them. space. Much of the early literature on this topic, we argue, failed to conceptualise sound adequately. More recent literature has begun to explore more carefully the nature of sound and the aural sensing of the environment in its social, political, economic, and cultural contexts. Here we contribute to this exploration not solely by offering a theoretical consideration of sound but also by providing a detailed analysis of the ways in which one particular place, over a particular period of time, became involved in a new set of relations centred on sound. The place in question is Blackburn in Lancashire, England, where, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, 'warehouse parties' revolving around 'acid house' music and the drug Ecstasy ('E') had a major impact on the town, in all manner of ways. By offering an empirical study as well as a more theoretical discussion on the relations between sound and space, we hope to demonstrate the significance of these relations to themes that have It demonstrates how various forms of dance considered to be American', particularly the shimmy', were labelled as degenerate and threatening, and how the newly formed Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing and the dance master and band leader Victor Silvester sought to produce a thoroughly regulated and encoded English' style of ballroom dancing. The paper charts the various strategies of representation and standardization that were used to enact this regulation of corporeal mobility. Theoretically the paper argues for an interpretive approach to bodily movement that considers bodily movement in the context of wider contexts of cultural geographies of mobility.
